Singapore | Saturday, Feb 01, 2025 | Saturday, Feb 01, 2025 |
One of Asia's great economic successes, Singapore has fused diverse cultures into one dynamic nation. Behind high-tech industries and high-rise buildings lives a society with an ingrained sense of conservative Confucian values. Beneath the westernized modernity beats a totally Asian heart. Strong beliefs center around extended families, filial piety, discipline, respect and Asian work ethics. Singapore’s name, meaning "Lion City," can be traced to the 13th century, and today there is the mythical Merlion, half-lion, half-fish, standing guard at the mouth of the Singapore River as the symbol of Singapore. A recent advertising campaign billed Singapore as "A Fine City."

Da Nang | Tuesday, Feb 11, 2025 | Tuesday, Feb 11, 2025 |
Da Nang is on the threshold of becoming a major destination for tourists from Europe, Australia and the United States, thanks to some unique attractions, spectacular scenery and the friendliness of the locals. The French influence is evident in Da Nang's provincial character which dates back to the 19th century, with later history wrought by war. It was here on the coast that the first U.S. combat troops landed on March 8, 1965. As the war progressed, Da Nang’s runway was expanded to become the largest in all of Southeast Asia. Da Nang fell to the Viet Cong in March 1975; this signified South Vietnam's defeat in the war. Among the city's numerous attractions is the much-touted Cham Museum, housing close to 300 Cham sculptures. Here history lovers get a glimpse into a very powerful era of Vietnam's past. Da Nang, however, may be most familiar to Americans who watched the movie Good Morning Vietnam and the popular television series China Beach - which immortalized a popular R&R GI resort of the Vietnam War.

Although the Access & Compliance Department will provide the ship with an advance notice of all food allergies detailed on an SRI submitted to them, it is recommended that guests also contact the Dining Room Manager upon boarding to review the details of these special dietary needs.
Holland America Line is committed to providing safe, easy, and accessible accommodations for all persons with disabilities, to the extent that is feasible. However, some needs require adequate time to prepare for a guest's arrival. It is recommended that guests make every effort to contact the Access & Compliance Department and submit a Special Requirements Information (SRI) Form well in advance of the departure of their cruise and/or cruisetour. It is recommended that an SRI form be submitted immediately upon booking, or a minimum of 45 days prior to departure.
Guests who are unable to care for their basic needs (e.g. dressing, eating, and attending safety drills) MUST have a capable traveling companion. The medical staff on board is not available for daily care unless an individual is hospitalized in the ship's Medical Center. In limited situations (either on board or ashore), Holland America may find it necessary to ask the individual to make alternative travel arrangements, such as if an individual with a disability is unable to satisfy certain specified safety and other criteria, even when provided with appropriate auxiliary aids and services.
Wheelchair-Accessible Staterooms
Holland America Line vessels have specially designed staterooms for guests who use wheelchairs. If you have not booked a wheelchair accessible staterooms, but instead will be using a standard stateroom, it is important to know about some limitations that adversely impact maneuverability, especially ingress and egress into bathrooms. For example, bathroom dimensions, doorsills, and the height of bathtubs in standard staterooms are often difficult to negotiate for guests who have limited mobility. Additionally, standard stateroom doors and hallways may be too narrow for a wheelchair or scooter* to maneuver into and out of the stateroom.
*Note: For safety reasons, these mobility devices must be stored and charged in the guests' staterooms.
Wheelchair Accessible Staterooms offer features such as wider entry doors, roll-in showers with grab bars and benches/seats, and hand-held shower nozzles, as well as lowered closet and towel rods.
Accessible stateroom locations are noted on the Deck Plans for each ship.
Ship Transfer Options
For individuals with limited mobility, the use of a wheelchair will be the primary mobility assistance aid for getting on and off the ship. Certain ship transfer operations (i.e. during tendering and at the gangways) may not be fully accessible to wheelchairs or scooters. When a ship is unable to dock, guests are taken ashore on smaller boats called tenders. Some guests with limited mobility may find it difficult to embark or disembark the ship at certain times while tendering or while docked due to steep gangways and steps, particularly during low or high tide. Also, please note that scooters and wheelchairs which are more than 100 lbs. (without the battery) are not allowed to be transferred from the ship to tender and/or from tender to shore.
Most Holland America Line vessels have been retrofitted with a tender-lift system that enables guests to roll directly on and off tenders while remaining in their wheelchairs. However, please be advised that adverse weather conditions such as wind, swells, or extreme tide levels may prohibit the use of the ship's tender lift equipment. Additionally, some port facilities may not be able to accommodate the lift equipment. If you require the use of this equipment, please speak with the Guest Relations Manager upon embarkation for further details or to coordinate specific arrangements.
Situations may occur in which guests with limited mobility may not be able to go ashore at the time they desire or are unable to go ashore at all in certain ports. For the safety of all concerned, the Captain shall make the final determination regarding whether or not it is advisable to provide assistance to guests with mobility impairments, or to carry their mobility assistance device (wheelchair, scooter, walker, etc.), taking into account all appropriate matters including, but not limited to, weather conditions, ship's location, weight of the guest or their mobility device, etc.
Personal Mobility Equipment
For the safety of all guests and crew, and to enhance accessibility, Holland America Line strongly recommends that all personal electric mobility equipment meet the following criteria:
Holland America Line recognizes that for some people, a larger scooter may be essential. If you believe you need a larger scooter, please contact the Access & Compliance Department to discuss your requirements.
For the safety of all guests and crew, scooters and other mobility equipment need to be securely stored and charged in the guest's stateroom, not in hallways or elevator lobbies. Scooters left in hallways and elevator lobbies could restrict people needing to travel through these areas in an emergency, particularly other guests using mobility aids, since they would have no way of getting by a scooter left in a hallway.
Holland America Line is no longer able to provide complimentary wheelchair assistance for any purpose other than embarkation, disembarkation, and emergency situations. Holland America Line wheelchairs are not available for shore excursions or for use on board. If you will require regular use of a wheelchair, it is recommended that you bring your own wheelchair with you. You may also make advance rental arrangements prior to your sailing and have a wheelchair delivered directly to the ship for use on board and in ports of call.

We recommend contacting one of these companies to confirm your arrangements as soon as possible in order to ensure the availability of your specific requests.
Shoreside Wheelchair Assistance
Because facilities in ports around the world vary significantly, wheelchair accommodations may not be available for some land tours and/or shore excursions. Furthermore, many transportation vehicles around the world do not have wheelchair lifts. Thus, it may be necessary for Holland America Line to make alternate transportation arrangements such as a sedan vehicle. This requires that a guest who uses a wheelchair be able to transfer from his/her wheelchair to the front or back seat of a sedan. Due to the limited number of lift-equipped vehicles in foreign locations, guests may incur additional costs for transportation related to airport transfers, shore excursions, and tour/hotel packages. Please note, lift equipped transportation within the United States may be arranged without additional costs. For information on alternative transportation arrangements and associated costs please contact the Access & Compliance Department . Please advise Holland America Line as far in advance as possible of any special needs for transfers. This will help to ensure availability of the appropriate vehicle(s) and for Holland America Line to provide an estimate of additional associated costs.
Guests should be aware that certain third party shore excursion facilities may not be fully accessible to guests with disabilities. Although Holland America Line endeavors to make sure these companies comply with legal requirements, they cannot guarantee that all are able to provide facilities that are accessible to individuals with disabilities. For detailed information on accessibility of shore excursions, it is strongly recommend that guests contact the Shore Excursions Department prior to embarkation at 1-888-425-9376 (or locally at 206-626-7320) or visit the Shore Excursions Office on board.
Wheelchair assistance that is requested for airports or train stations must be done directly through the airline or rail station. Holland America Line is not able to arrange for wheelchair assistance at airports or train stations.
Options For Deaf or Hard of Hearing Guests
To help maximize the cruise experience for guests who are deaf or hard of hearing, Holland America Line has made the following items available:
Options For Guests Who Are Blind Or Have Low Vision
To help maximize the cruise experience for guests who are blind or have low vision, Holland America Line has made the following items available:
Service Animals
Holland America Line only permits service animals on board, defined as those animals that are individually trained to provide assistance to an individual with a disability. Guests are not permitted to bring pets, therapy/companion animals, and other animals that do not meet the definition of service animals. If you have any questions about whether the animal you wish to bring on board is, in fact, a service animal, you may contact the Access & Compliance Department.
Your itinerary may include ports of call that have very specific and strict requirements that need to be met prior to your service animal being allowed off of the ship. Please be sure you understand the requirements for a service animal to disembark in each port of call. The best places to obtain specific information on required documentation and immunizations for your service animal are the U.S. Department of Agriculture's website, local customs offices in the specific ports, and from your service animal's veterinarian. All documentation and immunization requirements are established by government authorities and not by Holland America Line. Should you need assistance in locating this information, please contact the Access & Compliance Department.
To board the ship, your service animal must have current vaccinations. Records confirming the vaccination status should be provided to the Access & Compliance Department prior to your departure. It is also recommended that you carry the immunization records with you in case they are required at any port of call. If you do not have the proper documentation and proof of vaccinations for your service animal required at a port of call, or if there are local quarantine requirements, your service animal will be denied the right to leave the ship. If your service animal is denied the right to leave the ship in a specific port of call, the staff and crew will work with you to determine what actions may be possible to allow you to visit the port without your service animal. Please note that in your absence, you will need to provide for the care and supervision of your service animal. Except in those circumstances where your service animal has been denied disembarkation, you may not leave your service animal unattended on the vessel or in your stateroom at any time.
Oxygen Deliveries On Board
Guests requiring continuous or intermittent oxygen for chronic conditions must make their own arrangements prior to travel. Holland America Line ships are not equipped to provide guests with these services other than on an emergency basis in the Ship's Medical Center. For security and safety reasons, Holland America has selected CareVacations/CruiseShipAssist and Special Needs at Sea as the only outside vendors permitted to deliver oxygen supplies to Holland America ships.

Guests are also welcome to bring their own oxygen and/or oxygen equipment from home. Please note that the ship's staff and crew are not permitted to handle oxygen and/or oxygen equipment during the embarkation and disembarkation process. Thus, you must be able to handle your supplies if you bring your own. Please contact the Access & Compliance Department prior to sailing if you will require oxygen while on your cruise.
Please Note: In accordance with FAA regulations, airlines have restrictions concerning traveling with oxygen and oxygen containers. It is the traveler’s responsibility to be familiar with and comply with the regulations of the airline they are traveling on.
Guests can connect to the internet via satellite link 24 hours a day, satellite conditions permitting, either by accessing a 24/7 wireless connection "hotspot" or by utilizing the resources of the Explorations Café on board.
Wireless Internet Service
Each Holland America Line vessel offers wireless internet service in most public lounges throughout the ship. Guests may use their laptop computer or other wireless internet-enabled device to connect to the wireless internet service on board. IPhone and Android phone users will enjoy easy-to-navigate mobile friendly login. Internet Plans vary in price to accommodate individual needs and are interchangeable between the private computer terminals available 24-hours a day in the Explorations Café and your wireless device.
Explorations Café or Internet Café Internet Service
The Explorations Café, powered by The New York Times offers a comfortable, coffee house environment where you can access the internet via the onboard computers or via your own wireless internet device, such as a laptop computer, iPad or iPhone.
Explorations Café or Internet Café pricing is subject to change without prior notice. Please inquire on board for current prices.
Time Plan minutes can be used anytime throughout the cruise.
Each Holland America ship has an onboard Medical Center staffed by licensed physicians and critical care nurses. While not a full-service hospital, the Medical Center is well equipped to handle most emergencies and routine medical procedures.
A customary fee will be charged for services and medications dispensed (with the exception of meclizine for seasickness, Tylenol®, and aspirin, which may also be obtained at the Front Office). If you become ill or injured during the voyage and your diagnostic and/or care needs exceed the capabilities of the medical center, you will be transferred to medical facilities ashore. Please note that Medicare and many health insurance plans do NOT cover the cost of medical care at sea, in foreign countries, or for air evacuation. Guests are encouraged to obtain travel medical insurance prior to travel in order to be reimbursed for services rendered.
If you have a chronic medical condition, please bring a recent report from your physician. The medical staff on board is not available for daily care, unless you are hospitalized in the Medical Center. You must be able to care for yourself, including dressing, eating and attending the ship's safety drills. If you are unable to function independently in these areas, you must bring a caregiver with you.
Keep medication close at hand in your purse or carry-on bag. Be sure to bring enough prescription medicine to last throughout your cruise, as it may not be available on board or in some of the countries visited.
Holland America Line has a youth program and the ship is staffed with a professional Club HAL Director dedicated to making sure children have a great time. Some of the fun-filled activities include bingo for prizes, arts & crafts, special parties, and much more. Each participant also receives a Club HAL t-shirt. An activity schedule for each age group will be delivered to your stateroom each evening.
Activities are offered for kids (ages 3-7), 'tweens (8-12), and teens (13-17). The program has an open door policy, which means participants may come and go as they please. All activities are supervised. However, the Club HAL Director is not responsible for any child if he/she chooses to leave the activity.

Submit Your Own Review!Nice ship
Pros: Nice ship
Cons: Older ship showing signs of age
Review: The ship is very nicely maintained for its age. Once in a while an oder resembling a sewer like smell emanates from the toilet in the stateroom. It goes away with a few flushes.
Interesting itineraries
Pros: Interesting itineraries
Cons: Caters to significantly elderly passengers
Review: The majority of passengers were elderly. Not just older, but significantly elderly. Significant number of passengers using mobility assist devices made tendering times excessively long in embarking and disembarking from tenders. Gangways onto ship extremely steep causing elderly to have difficulty in using them. On-board daily activities geared towards older passengers. Example: "adult coloring" and "paper folding" were offered daily. Evening entertainment very "amateur hour" with shows not appropriate for young children or people offended by semi-porno productions--several close to "X" rated Vegas style. This ship seemed to not handle rough seas as well as other ships I've been on in much rougher seas. I frequently felt I was going to be tossed out of bed with the ship rolling. Ship would travel very slowly (9 knots?) thus sea time between ports was excessive. Ship was very clean with friendly crew. As a solo passenger requesting a table for one expect a daily argument with the dining room maître di who will try his best to seat you at a table with other passengers. Food at all venues just okay, nothing outstanding.
Service
Pros: Service
Cons: End of trip disembarking
Review: We really enjoyed the ship and crew- things were clean and the food was great! The only issue was the disembark fiasco on the last day- until then, I would have rated it very highly- unfortunately the lack of organization and ensuing crowds, w/o ANY direction from the crew really was awful- and was our last impression of an otherwise wonderful trip
Excellent service, accommodating, knowledgeable
Pros: Excellent service, accommodating, knowledgeable
Cons: Not the Holland America I sailed on 8-10 years ago. There is a charge for certain high end foods which were previously included.
Review: Pinnacle staff is outstanding: Ljupcho, Elizabeth, Arjay, Thembi, Gede, Ganda….all of them are professionals. Smiles on their faces from the moment they see you to when you leave. They couldn’t do enough for you. I consider them friends. The cabin stewards, Irma and Ricky, were beyond helpful and very pleasant.
Everything was seamless, great staff.
Pros: Everything was seamless, great staff.
Cons: No Cons
Review: This was our first cruise so we can’t compare it but we can’t imagine a better experience. Staff was professional, curious and efficient. The food was great at e every venue. Plenty of activities all day if you chose to participate, if not you are welcomed to hang out at the spa, gymnasium or pool.
organized, friendly people, great food
Pros: organized, friendly people, great food
Cons: none
Review: This was our first cruise so we had nothing to compare to, but we were very impressed with every aspect of our trip on Noordam. I suppose after 150 years, Holland America has perfected the organization required to manage nearly 2000 passengers. We were provided detailed information for every activity - embarkation, excursions, debarkation - so we always knew what to expect. Every member of the crew was friendly, and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. They were happy to tell their story - where they were from and how long they had worked for HAL. Our room stewards Andi & Salim were outstanding! We ate most meals at the buffet. There was a great variety for all tastes. We had one dinner in the main dining room, and one at the Pinnacle Grill. The steaks were cooked perfectly.
Service and organization
Pros: Service and organization

Review: Margaret and Geo, Guest Services Associates in the Neptune Lounge were outstanding. They were very professional, friendly and helpful. We really appreciated all their assistance!

Everything!! The rooms were amazing, food was great, overall decor and presentation phenomenal! The staff though-that was the icing on the cake! This was by far the best staff we have experienced.
Pros: Everything!! The rooms were amazing, food was great, overall decor and presentation phenomenal! The staff though-that was the icing on the cake! This was by far the best staff we have experienced.
Cons: Nothing!
Review: We loved every part of this trip so much we hated leaving! Widhi was the kindest, hardworking steward. He knew everyone’s name and greeted us as if we had known each other for years and in the most professional way! Hazel-out omelette chef-and friend from the south (her from the south Philippines and us from south US) was always smiling and happy ready to provide us whatever we needed. Roldan was helpful, courteous, friendly, funny, professional, and hard working. Our dining staff was spot on! The captain didn’t seem like a distant voice but instead a part of the experience! Every single person we encountered just made our trip even more phenomenal!!
Staff very friendly and efficient. Ship was very cleans and maintained. Excursions were great.
Pros: Staff very friendly and efficient. Ship was very cleans and maintained. Excursions were great.
Cons: Ship seemed very crowded. Dress code in dining room not followed. Entertainment was not that good.
Review: This was our 17th HAL cruise and for some reason the ship seemed extremely crowded and it was a much rowdier crowd. There was no regard for the dress code with many people in the dining room for dinner in jeans, t-shirts and ball caps even on dressy nights. The staff and crew were very helpful and very friendly. We miss not having priority boarding for 4 star Mariners.
Excellent selection of ports…all slightly different. Staff very attentive and personable. Ship right size, in immaculate condition.

Cons: The weather.
Review: The dining room personnel was outstanding. Ours were Batara and Aditya. Learned our names right away and never forgot them The whole dining room was worked efficiently.. our waiters were so helpful. I felt the dining room was VERY well trained. I told the person in charge how I felt about his working with them. Our room was cared for by Yudi and Mat. Yudi was outstanding and helpful. and could greet us from down the hall, too. This was an exciting but restful cruise. Congratulations to whoever made it so great. Even with the lousy weather!
The staff was amazing. The food was delicious. We lacked for nothing on this trip. In talking to other more seasoned travelers who could compare one cruise over another this one was the top choice over and over.
Pros: The staff was amazing. The food was delicious. We lacked for nothing on this trip. In talking to other more seasoned travelers who could compare one cruise over another this one was the top choice over and over.
Cons: This cruise is not a party barge. It is very much laid back and relaxed. The entertainment was not geared to a younger crowed but still there was plenty to enjoy.

Review: Thoroughly enjoyed the six days on Noordam from Vancouver to Honolulu. Beginning to plan next cruise.
Excellent staff, great selection of food, good facilities and cabins comfortable
Pros: Excellent staff, great selection of food, good facilities and cabins comfortable
Cons: Problem with toilet in cabin, entertainment not that great
Review: We had a really good time on the Noordam. The staff were so friendly. The cabins were spacious and kept very clean. Our balcony was great to sit out and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the inside passage. Food in both restaurants was excellent with a great variety of options. The standard of entertainment varied quite a lot with some excellent shows and some not so great. The ports we visited Juneau, Skagway and Ketichan were lovely scenic ports and the there was a good variety of shopping available. We also booked excursions via Alaska Shore Experts and they were great especially the whale watching from Juneau and the Yukon train and bus journey from Skagway, the scenery was absolutely amazing. We did not get to see Glacier Bay due to a medical emergency on board which meant the ship had to be diverted but we were really impressed with the care given to our fellow passenger who had to be transferred off the boat
Wonderful Experience

Excellent dining, Wonderful land and train excursions.
Pros: Excellent dining, Wonderful land and train excursions.
Cons: Wine was mostly foreign and overpriced. West mark in Anchorage is in bad need of repair.
Review: Overall this was a fabulous cruise. Some of the problems that I experienced were from my own lack of knowledge. HAL had changed the names of some of the venues on the ship, but not the signs. This was a little confusing. The cruise line made every effort to make the trip enjoyable, especially glacier bay.
Tasteful food; great variety of meals; health conscious

Cons: Entertainment in main lounge was fair. In our Ocean view room the TV was outdated, the staff serving beverages were sometimes dry(not friendly) if you were ordering anything other than alcohol
Review: This Cruise was an excellent value. The ship still looked to be in great shape even though it is last to get the "class" make-over. Our cabin's TV was outdated but most other areas still looked classy and nice. The overall attitude on this Cruise was super from staff to other guests. When we visited the Lido market buffet, we always found something tasty, nutritious and good variety each day. The main dining room did a great job as well. We had OPEN dining and had no problems getting sat in a nice location, quickly. The staff was pleasant and the food tasted really good, I tried many plates offered. We also ate at Canaletto and Pinnacle Grill, one night each. I can't say enough of how wonderful all of what we ordered tasted and how much food we got, so much quantity and flavor! Again Super! "BB Kings" entertainment was really good, however the HAL singer/dancers entertainment was fair, a little cheesy? The Alaskan Film along with Live music by HAL musicians was fantastic! We also caught two, "out on theater", movies playing, enjoyed it. We had a couple small things in our cabin that needed HAL's attention and they jumped right on it and fixed it. My room steward was always around but not in our face, he did great and was friendly. We submitted one load of laundry to our room steward and I had my shoes shined, which he did both very timely and a great job. We also thought the gym/spa was good, almost like home. Easy to keep up with our daily routine.
Excellent food and service. Thoroughly enjoyed sailing with Holland America Cruise.

Cons: Only the red eye flight from Vancouver to new York
Review: The land, Cruise and Vancouver trip was extremely well planned and everything went so smooth. One best part was that we did not have to worry about our luggage from the beginning to the vend. The cruise was one of the best I been before. I absolutely love it and enjoy.
Like always, the ship was clean and the staff friendly
Pros: Like always, the ship was clean and the staff friendly
Cons: Disembarkation created confusion for some
Review: By and large, everything went smoothly, the food was excellent and the entertainment great. Since we had to leave the ship as early as possible in order to catch our flight, we opted to take our luggage ourselves and proceeded toward the exit which was already filled with people who were supposed to be in their cabins. Unfortunately, there was no officer or crew member in sight . Finally, some crew members appeared and we were able to leave the ship after lugging our suite cases to an other level which originally was not on the program.
The state room was amazing and our location was perfect
Pros: The state room was amazing and our location was perfect
Cons: The food was the same and got a bit tiring
Review: It was definately a trip worth taking. The staff was very attentive and they were always smiling! My only complaint is that the food was the same every day, even in the restaurants.
Stateroom service, Atria bar service (Leo Bon--superb)
Pros: Stateroom service, Atria bar service (Leo Bon--superb)
Cons: Dining room service, food
Review: Dining room staff needs additional training. Food presentation better than quality of food. Entertainment in Vista Lounge not up to what it used to be.
Reasonable number of guests, unlike other big cruise ships
Pros: Reasonable number of guests, unlike other big cruise ships
Cons: Embarkation time unreasonably long & not well organized
Review: Guests should have pre-assigned times to register for embarkation based on previously submitted preferred times. There was chaos at the port terminal when almost everyone arrived at the same time to embark!
Steward were awesome and Lido staff were great too.
Pros: Steward were awesome and Lido staff were great too.
Cons: Unusual vibrations in our veranda from ship's engines.
Review: Easy getting luggage on disembarkation. Really enjoyed the Lido cafeteria and dining room. Meeting new people. Really enjoyed the entertainment. Dislike paying for internet service.
Service, Staterooms, Cleanliness, Friendliness of Staff, Expertise,
Pros: Service, Staterooms, Cleanliness, Friendliness of Staff, Expertise,
Cons: None
Review: I was dismayed to see some passengers dressed inappropriately for the formal evenings to the extent that some were in shorts, tee shirts and flip flops. Though these people were not dining in the main dining room or specialty restaurants, they still looked out of place and disrespectful of fellow passengers. They should have at the very least be dressed in "smart casual". If they want to be dressed in this manner, then travel on Carnival!!
Wonderful Food and Cabin Service
Pros: Wonderful Food and Cabin Service
Cons: Spa rooms not properly functioning
Review: Overall a great ship. The Specialty restaurants were particularly good. Crew treated us very well. Nothing not to like
Wonderful service food and activities
Pros: Wonderful service food and activities
Cons: Sauna and steam rooms not hot
Review: Great food especially in specialty restaurants. Very good entertainment
Food very good; service staff was fantastic; ship exceptionally clean; older ship feeling even though ship is only 8 years old; perfect size ship - not too big and not too small; Half Moon Cay was fantastic - one of the best beaches I've been to in the Caribbean and barbeque was also very good.

Cons: Dinner menu could have had more options and not so much gourmet style in every item.
Review: Only comment had nothing to do with me other than I was with my friends, one of which required a wheelchair to get on the ship, and the amount of time it took to get a wheelchair was well over an hour; closer to 1-1/2 hours. They seemed to be short of staff and wheelchairs and way to many people requiring wheelchairs. This was very surprising for Holland America since they are known to cater to a much older crowd. Surprisingly this cruise had a large variety of ages, which was great - ages ranging from the 40's through the 90's and far more in the 50's and 60's ages.
Crew, Food, Ports, Excursions, Great beds - very comfy.
Pros: Crew, Food, Ports, Excursions, Great beds - very comfy.
Cons: none come to mind
Review: The crew was always smiling and happy to greet you. They learned your name in the dining room or at the Lido buffet on the first day and never forgot who you were. The ship was just the right size for exploration and for easily navigating. The casino was well run for a casino at sea. Tournaments were available for players. Excursions were great and plentiful. I would recommend, the ship, the crew, the ports and the food on this sailing.
Almost all staff members aboard were extremely helpful and gracious, with two exceptions. The food was varied and good. The ship is in good condition. Our stateroom with verandah was particularly nice, due to the added view from the corner, unlike other verandahs.

Cons: Bathrooom tile surrounding the shower was in disrepair. Needs attention prior to next sailing!Land tours a bit too pricy. The staff members checking our IDs at the exit/re-entry post were not welcoming and need to be retrained! Som ecomnfusion regarding the baggage storage after the trip. P{perhaps a map could be prepared by the ship to help locate the exact spot after disembarking.

Pros: No Pros

Review: Holland America Noordam is a great ship. My family had a superb cruise. The food was great, the service was excellent. There were great activitiest 3 year old and my 3 young grandkids enjoyed. The shore excursions were great.
A more upscale flavor than Norwegian, especially for the formal nights. Passengers dress up much more, which is nice, Who wants to wear a suit and tie and sit next to a bonehead in shorts and a t shirt. Saw more tuxes then we've seen in a long time. They also have a daily Catholic mass and weekly services for other faiths.

Cons: Entertainment lacking, both in quality and quantity. Given the demographics of the passengers, it should have changed accordingly once it repositioned. Food was good, but nothing special. Only one real specialty restaurant. The second shared space with the buffet. Strange for a ship this size and clientel. Food good but nothing special but they did an exceptional job in accomodating a special dietary need.
Review: This was our first time with HAL after a couple of similar trips w/Norwegian. Our experience was that they are very comparable. The Noordam has been around awhile but was exceptionally well maintained. I think they are a bit more expensive than Norwegian for a comparable cruise and while we couldn't see anything that was significantly better than Norwegian, we would certainly consider them for a future trip
