Passau | Sunday, Oct 27, 2024 | Sunday, Oct 27, 2024 |
In the third millennium, Passau was considerably enlarged by the prince bishops of Passau, who made it their royal residence and capital of the largest Danube diocese. The wonderful Baroque buildings dominating the city today were built after a fire of 1662. One of the most striking is cathedral of St. Stephan, with the world's biggest church organ. One of the best ways to enjoy the magic of Passau is with a sightseeing tour. Other sights to see include: Neue Residenz - an Episcopal palace; Veste Oberhaus - Citadel of the prince bishops with the best view of the Old Town and confluence of the three rivers; Town Hall, which is lavishly decorated halls with monumental paintings; Niedernburg Abbey - tomb of Gisela, first queen of Hungary; Maria Hilf - an abbey and place of pilgrimage overlooking the town center; Dreiflusse-Eck - the confluence of the Danube, Inn and Ilz; and St. Nikolai - a University church with Romanesque crypt.

Linz | Tuesday, Oct 29, 2024 | Tuesday, Oct 29, 2024 |
This Roman-built capital city is an important trade town along the Danube. For people interested in its past, it has an impressive list of important historical figures who have passed through or made Linz their home. Friedrich III, the Hapsburg Emperor, spent his last days in Linz, and for a time it was the most important city in the empire. Adolph Hitler went to school here for a brief period of time before moving on. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart wrote his Symphony No. 36 in Linz, and today it is called the Linz Symphony. Sights to see include the Dreifaltigkeitssäule - a monument constructed in memorial of the people who died in the plague epidemics. There are several museums and castles in the area as well. Once in Linz, you'll understand why it was such a place of historical significance.

A long line of great composers Johann Strauss, Haydn and Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert, Mahler and Schonberg all worked here. Bratislava | Friday, Nov 01, 2024 | Friday, Nov 01, 2024 |
Bratislava is Slovakia's capital and largest city. The Carpathian Mountains, which begin at the Iron Gate of Romania, finally come to an end here. Vineyards on the slopes of the Little Carpathian Mountains meet the Danube River. The Austrian border is almost within sight of the city and Hungary is less than 15 miles away. Many beautiful monuments survive in the old town to tell of its past under Hungarian rule, and Bratislava's numerous museums are surprisingly rich. Franz Lizst visited Bratislava 15 times, and the opera productions of Slovak National Theatre rival anything in Europe. The old city, which is packed with museums and palaces, and the castle are the best parts of Bratislava - the rest of the city is pretty drab. Climb up the castle for great views and to check out the very interesting Museum of Folk Music within. The Slovak National Museum and the Slovak National Gallery on the river are also worth a visit. Hviezdoslavovo námestie (square) is a convenient orientation point, with the old town to the north, the Danube to the south, and Bratislava Castle to the west.
Budapest | Saturday, Nov 02, 2024 | Saturday, Nov 02, 2024 |
Caught between eastern and western Europe, Budapest has a character uniquely its own. It's also the last cheap, civilised city in Europe. Budapest can seem like one big sight, with each phase in its history, from the Ottoman period until the Communist days and from renaissance to revolution, leaving its mark on the city. For the tourist, a trip to Hungary's capital is dominated by the majestic sights of Buda. In the summer, there are open-air festivals at Szeged, Diosgyor Castle in Miskolc, Gyor and Pecs. Visit the former Royal Palace complex, the Matyas templom and the Belvaros. Margaret Island is a giant recreational park and feels pleasantly separated from the city bustle. Hungarian National Gallery houses Hungarian art since the birth of the nation. Although Esztergom is Hungary's most sacred city, home of the Archbishop and the nation's biggest church, it has a real-life edge. The first-time visitor to Szeged is invariably struck by its space and grandeur. One's immediate impressions of Hungary's third largest provincial city are of greenery and plazas, of broad.

Submit Your Own Review!Well-appointed boat, good food, lots of excursions, very welcoming crew, nightly entertainment
Pros: Well-appointed boat, good food, lots of excursions, very welcoming crew, nightly entertainment
Cons: One day in port, the boat was moved and there was no crew member sent out onto the dock to assist us with getting back to the boat. It was a little scary, but we managed to figure it out. Had I been alone, I would’ve been really upset.
Review: Loved most everyone and everyone about the boat; however, I would recommend a few private tours on land if there are particular things you want to see and do. Some of the bus tours were generic and I felt like time was wasted, and I didn’t get to see some things I really wanted to see and do. Also, the weather was extremely hot and we sweated immensely on the excursions. Go in the fall or spring!
The ship is beautiful and the service is outstanding. This was my first river cruise and it exceeded my expectations. Would love to take another trip in Uniworld.
Pros: The ship is beautiful and the service is outstanding. This was my first river cruise and it exceeded my expectations. Would love to take another trip in Uniworld.
Cons: The guide on the excursion to the Budapest Academy of Music was pretty boring and his part of the tour was way too long; however, I enjoyed the recital.
Review: The staff goes above and beyond to meet your every need. The ship was super clean and beautiful. It was a real pleasure cruising with Uniworld!
Staff, food, cleanliness
Pros: Staff, food, cleanliness
Cons: communication, not enough time in some stops
Review: We thoroughly enjoyed our trip on the SS Maria Theresa. The coziness off the ship and the family like feel with the staff made for a very enjoyable experience. Food was outstanding and we never felt that we were an inconvenience to the staff at any time. The Hotel manager new our names on the second day even though we had not talked with him. That showed a real commitment to customer service at the highest level. It is very difficult to be perfect and we would never expect that but we would have liked to have seen a better means of communication. Outside of the safety drill, they never utilized the intercom system and we were only receiving communication in a rushed pre dinner meeting on each day. I feel this could be done better with technology and better touch points. Overall, we loved the ship and the experience and would very much like to sail with Uniworld again.
Truly All-Inclusive Luxury
Pros: Truly All-Inclusive Luxury
Cons: I have no cons.
Review: A lot of cruises or resorts claim to be all-inclusive, but when you show up either they only meant certain items are included but others aren’t. Or maybe everything is included but that means the quality is lower. Not with Uniworld! Everything they did and had organized was such a great balance, which made it so restful and relaxing!
Beautiful ship, attentive and friendly staff, excellent cuisine
Pros: Beautiful ship, attentive and friendly staff, excellent cuisine
Cons: None. I wanted to spend anothe eight days on the ship.
Review: I have never been treated with greater respect and consideration than on this ship. Our room was impeccable and the service was perfect. The meals offered a great variety of delicious fresh and prepared foods. The staff in the dining room was attentive to our every need. Getting on and off the ship was well managed at each port. We enjoyed our time wandering as much as we did the organized tours. We especially enjoyed some of the easy time traveling along the Danube and enjoying the beautiful scenery.
Outstanding crew and service, knowledgeable and personable tour guides, just the right amount of busy and relaxing
Pros: Outstanding crew and service, knowledgeable and personable tour guides, just the right amount of busy and relaxing
Cons: None
Review: An amazing adventure!
This was absolutely an all inclusive cruise!
Pros: This was absolutely an all inclusive cruise!
Cons: No Cons
Review: This was our first river cruise and based on our wonderful experience it will not be our last!!
Vienna was great -- lots of booths and we stayed long enough in the day to enjoy the night lights.
Pros: Vienna was great -- lots of booths and we stayed long enough in the day to enjoy the night lights.
Cons: Krems - no markets at all
Review: We needed thermal underwear as it was really cold but once bundled up, it was fine. Only had rain on the last day in Budapest and I think that would have been one of the best markets due to more items being hand crafted. Given it was advertised as "Xmas Markets" I think letting us know how big the markets were and giving enough time to really explore them at each port would have been helpful...and allowing us to see them at night with all the lights on would be great!
Staff and Service
Pros: Staff and Service
Cons: Gained weight
Review: We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves on this cruise. The staff was great, the service beyond expectations, and the food was wonderful. They cater to your every need.
