Juneau | Monday, May 27, 2024 | Monday, May 27, 2024 |
Juneau is one of America's most beautiful state capitals, with the looming summits of Mt. Juneau and Mt. Roberts providing a gorgeous backdrop. Once part of Alaska's Gold Rush, the city boasts natural and manmade attractions. Downtown is filled with many vibrant buildings, including must-see St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church, which houses artwork and artifacts dating back to the 18th century. From the bright mural in Marine Park to the carvings in House of Wickersham, downtown is filled with Alaska's own unique brand of culture and architecture. Often hailed as Juneau's most impressive sight, nearby Mendenhall Glacier is approximately 12 miles long and 1.5 miles wide. See the glacier on a float trip or a "flightseeing" adventure, or hike up one of its trails for a closer inspection. For a bird's-eye view, the Mt. Roberts Tramway offers a short, six-minute trek to the top of Mt. Roberts, 1800 feet above the city. If wildlife is your passion, scenic Admiralty Island has the world's highest concentration of brown bears.
Skagway | Tuesday, May 28, 2024 | Tuesday, May 28, 2024 |
This "Gateway to the Klondike" watched as fortune-seekers headed to Chilkoot and White Pass Trails during Alaska's Gold Rush. Today, feel like a prospector in Skagway, as you walk along its rustic boardwalks and frontier-style storefronts. This cozy town offers a pleasant respite from the hustle and bustle of most cities. With classic cars and one of the oldest narrow-gauge railroads in the world, the city retains the flavor of days gone by and remains an important link to Alaska's history. A stroll down Broadway is a must. Highlights include Arctic Brotherhood Hall. Other buildings like the Trail of '98 Museum, Corrington's Museum of Alaskan History and the Alaskan Wildlife Adventure and Museum present different facets of prospecting times. Before hitting famous Chilkoot Trail, there are other well-marked trails to try. Hiking to Lower Dewey Lake is an easy, 20-minutes, and there are more adventurous trails to remote Sturgill's Landing, Upper Dewey Lake and Devil's Punchbowl. The White Pass Scenic Railway and Eagle Preserve Wildlife Quest provide additional options.
Glacier Bay | Wednesday, May 29, 2024 | Wednesday, May 29, 2024 |
Spread across an impressive 3.2 million acres in southeast Alaska, Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve offers an inspirational glimpse of what Mother Nature does best. The head of Glacier Bay is Tarr Inlet, where scientists have found exposed rock believed to be more than 200 million years old. The Tarr Inlet is home to Grand Pacific Glacier, an active body of ice slowly making way toward Margerie Glacier, which it last touched in 1912. Johns Hopkins Inlet is home to no less than nine glaciers. Framed by rocky slopes stretching skyward more than 6,000 feet, these wondrous bodies are eclipsed only by mighty Mount Fairweather, which at more than 15,300 feet is the highest point in southeast Alaska. In northeast Glacier Bay, the snow-covered Takhinsha Mountains feed active Muir Glacier. The brilliant blue glow of a calving glacier and the thunderous roar of ice crashing into the water below are sights and sounds to remember for the rest of your life. With such diverse landscape, the park provides a variety of habitats for animals.
Ketchikan | Thursday, May 30, 2024 | Thursday, May 30, 2024 |
Ketchikan is known as "Alaska's First City" because it's the first major community travelers come to as they travel north. The city is built on steep hillsides and is billed as salmon capital of the world. A quaint village, the town is three miles long and three blocks wide. With fishing boats sailing in and float planes ascending from the water, this seaside town is bustling with activity. With the world's largest collection of totem poles, Totem Bight State Historical Park offers insight into various native cultures of the Pacific Northwest. These wood-carved creations tell colorful, intricate tales – often showing a family history or depicting a local legend. Ketchikan has many options for adventure of relaxation, including mountain bike tours, sea kayaking, seaplane riding, or strolling down the boardwalk of Creek Street, Ketchikan's most famous section with a historic cable car and quaint boutiques. Blessed with an abundance of hiking trails, Ketchikan offers many breathtaking vistas, including the panoramic, 360-degree view from the top of Deer Mountain.
Victoria, B.C. | Friday, May 31, 2024 | Friday, May 31, 2024 |
British culture and island informality collide in Victoria. This sophisticated seaside city is full of historic sites, parks and gardens. Take a walking tour - many of which begin at Parliament Buildings at Victoria's Inner Harbor. Combined with majestic Empress Hotel, these monumental buildings give the city a regal European feel. See equally impressive modern structures, such as Royal British Columbia History Museum, or replicas of large, native Northwest Indian houses at Thunderbird Park. Unique attractions include Undersea Gardens, Miniature World, Maritime Museum, Chinatown and Royal London Wax Museum. A memorable places to visit is world-famous Butchart Gardens, with 5,000 fauna varieties. The dazzling gardens on Saanich Inlet are beautiful at night, when hundreds of lights sparkle along winding paths. Additional gardens in Victoria include Crystal Garden and the gardens surrounding Government House and near Craigdarroch Castle, a towering Victorian mansion complete with a tower and turrets. Tour this city in a horse-drawn carriage.

Review:
Beautiful ship, great friendly staff, good food
Pros: Beautiful ship, great friendly staff, good food
Cons: Very expensive excursions, smoky casino, noisy mini suite at night
Review: When at sea, our mini suite was very noisy. Constant thumps, squeaks, rubbing and snaps, so much so that one night my wife thought someone was attempting to get into our cabin.
Beautiful ship
Pros: Beautiful ship
Cons: Long wait for dining service. They do not have enough staff to support the waiters. We averaged 2 1/2 hours at the table for dinner. We missed most of the shows because of the time it took to get out of the dinning room.
Review: I would not recommend this ship for anyone in a wheelchair. You cannot get down the hallways if a cleaning cart is in the way. We had to have our handicap person get out of the wheelchair and fold it up to walk past the carts. The elevator service is also a real challenge with a wheelchair a lot of time, standing, waiting for elevators that had her accommodate the wheelchair. There was no place to dance, except for the Piazza. Acoustics in that area were terrible could not carry on a conversation in the bars near there because of the loud music. This is definitely not the ship for anyone over 65.

Food choices, entertainment choices, everything felt close to our stateroom
Pros: Food choices, entertainment choices, everything felt close to our stateroom
Cons: Unsure
Review: We enjoyed every part of our 7 days. Comedians were great. Service was spot on. Food was delicious every meal.
Evening Entertainment was Awesome
Pros: Evening Entertainment was Awesome
Cons: Not enough activity or entertainment earlier in the day when at sea.
Review: Probably our biggest complaint was the smoke smell from the casino. Couldn't you have doors on it. There was entertainment on deck 6 though out the day, but we only went once due to the smoke smell from the casino which only got worse each day. I know we were not the only ones who complained about it. I feel for the performers who were performing at the Crooners on Deck 6 as they has to put up with it. I would like to make a positive comment for our Stateroom Steward Christopher Panelo who did an excellent job and was always pleasant. Also Rifki at the ice cream stand on Deck 16, again very pleasant. And Jeorge & his staff in the Market on Deck 16 Port forward section, Always took care of our needs.

Review: We took our children and their families with us to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary, 2 high school graduations and a birthday. Perfect family time with so much to choose from and interest everyone.
Excellent beds, wide variety of eating locations
Pros: Excellent beds, wide variety of eating locations
Cons: Most impersonal experience I’ve ever had on a Princess ship, too many people
Review: Due to the use of the medallion system, the passenger has become nothing more than a stateroom number. This was the first time on a Princess ship that I felt like I was nothing more than part of a herd of cattle. It felt like the Discovery Princess was understaffed. Several days we were lucky if our stateroom was cleaned by noon and 2 days it was after 3:00 pm. Turndown service at night was just as inconsistent. It felt like each steward had too many staterooms to care for. In the dining areas you practically had to tackle the wait staff to get tea, water, coffee or orange juice. Food was wonderful and plentiful. The Discovery is beautiful and new, but too big for our taste, and just had a sense of disorganization.

Pros: Wonderful new ship! Loved the freshness and bright decor.
Cons: Didn’t like the way we had to line up for our dinner reservations.
Review: Love the coastal cities of California! Great staff and entertainment.
Pros: No Pros
Cons: the only con was we were unable to take leftovers from Gigis pizzaria and it had to be thrown away. We were told we had to order room service if we wanted it in our rooms and we were unaware of this until after we ordered in dining room
Review: The ship was absolutely amazing, clean comfortable and the friendliest staff. We highly recommend this adventure with Princess.
The staff throughout the ship is simply exemplary! My wife and I have cruised a lot, and it would be hard to find a friendlier, more sincere group of people
Pros: The staff throughout the ship is simply exemplary! My wife and I have cruised a lot, and it would be hard to find a friendlier, more sincere group of people
Cons: Only 1: Princess Live
Review: Unlike the Majestic and Royal, they took out the wall in Princess Live, and in essence turned it into the "Explorer" Lounge from the Ruby class ships. People walk by, call out answers and basically disrupt the enjoyment of the people in Princess Live. By removing that wall, they've taken away the intimacy of the lounge. Not good. A major mistake by Princess.
Beautiful ship, very good entertainment, friendly staff
Pros: Beautiful ship, very good entertainment, friendly staff
Cons: Food was just OK and taking shuttle to airport at end of trip was delayed
Review: Had two mini-suites for 5 of us. Not sure the regular size rooms would have been large enough. The ship is new and beautiful and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was OK and typical of a cruise ship this size. Went to a Alaska and Victoria, BC. Had a great time in all the stops. Would definitely recommend the ship for a future cruise.
Top Dining Experience, Excellent Entertainment
Pros: Top Dining Experience, Excellent Entertainment
Cons: Smoky Casino
Review: The Discovery Princess is an absolutely beautiful ship and very spacious. Even though there were 3,000+ passengers, no part of the ship ever felt crowded. The menu options in the dining rooms was excellent. The variety of choices and quality of the food was excellent. The amount and quality of entertainment in the atrium and lounges exceeded that we experienced on other ships. Due to rock and mud slides damaging the port in Skagway, our ship was diverted to Sitka. The only negative was the casino. They have a smoking section in the slot area, but the smoke wafted throughout the entire casino area making it uncomfortable for non-smokers. Overall, I would recommend this ship and will definitely look forward to cruising on her again
Medallions made everything so easy
Pros: Medallions made everything so easy
Cons: Boarding times
Review: We had an enjoyable time! The ship is amazing, the staff are so kind and helpful, and the ship is easy to get a handle on. The shows were fun and there were lots of great activities.
Skagway Club Dining was excellent.
Pros: Skagway Club Dining was excellent.
Cons: Room service never got orders correct.
Review: Beautiful ship. Dining staff was extraordinary! Piazzo service was extremely slow. International Cafe was a gem!
Staff was always helpful and courteous . The food was delicious. The excursions were all very interesting.
Pros: Staff was always helpful and courteous . The food was delicious. The excursions were all very interesting.
Cons: Wish we could have had more time off to see Alaska by land.as well.
Review: The ship was beautiful. I felt the staff kept everything clean, hand sanitizers etc were always available. I felt the health and safety of the passengers and staff was prioritized.
Beautiful new ship, clean and modern. Many things accomplished with the medallion. Excellent food. Excellent service by the crew.
Pros: Beautiful new ship, clean and modern. Many things accomplished with the medallion. Excellent food. Excellent service by the crew.
Cons: Frustratingly slow internet. Asked to download a lot of information ahead of time into their app, but then required to provide the same information again prior to boarding.
Review: Upgrade the internet and this would have been a much more pleasant experience.
