Rouen | Wednesday, May 15, 2024 | Wednesday, May 15, 2024 |
Settled by the Celts, Rouen really flourished in the Middle Ages. In a natural amphitheater on the Seine, the capital of Normandy is important as a commercial and cultural center. Today the city is a blend of ancient and modern. Rouen is known as the City of a Hundred Spires; many of its important edifices are churches. The most magnificent one is the Cathedral of Notre Dame, a masterpiece of French Gothic architecture immortalized in Claude Monet's series "Cathedrales de Rouen." Surrounding the large square are picturesque half-timbered houses with steeply pointed roofs. The wealth of architectural treasures and the ambience of Rouen’s historic center will impress any visitor. Exploring the narrow, cobbled streets in the old quarter is a must. The giant clock above the archway spanning the Rue du Gros Horloge is a focal point and famous emblem. Rouen is connected to the sea by the Seine Valley. The city serves as a starting point for trips to Paris and to Norman castles and abbeys. | ||

Submit Your Own Review!Ship clean, food and drinks excellent, transfers great
Pros: Ship clean, food and drinks excellent, transfers great
Cons: Restaurant service not as attentive as Rhine cruise
Review: Whole purpose of trip was to see battlefield at Normandy, guide missed everything important, 4.5 hours on bus for disappointment.
Fantastic service, great food, and nice tours.
Pros: Fantastic service, great food, and nice tours.
Cons: Long flight and time difference
Review: Tours were much too long with too much unnecessary information provided! Would have preferred more personal time on our own to shop and explore. It was very difficult to interpret our tour guides because of strong French accents. The Palace of Versailles was extremely crowded and the tour guide's explanation of each room was much too long, leaving little time or energy left to tour the gardens.
The level of service, food, program director, included excursions.
Pros: The level of service, food, program director, included excursions.
Cons: None
Review: The dining room and stateroom service was excellent as was the food. The program director was extremely knowledgeable and the included excursions were excellent. Everything was done on time. There we even little extras like small appetizers served before dinner. All in all, an excellent crew, ship and cruise experience.
Great food. Consistently good excursion guides. Felt taken care of by Viking staff!

Review: Paris to Normandy aboard Viking Fjorgyn is a must! From the minute we stepped on to on to the Fjorgyn, it was smooth sailing. All of the crew were so welcoming and genuinely made you feel at home. We had daily Covid screenings and every crew member wore masks the entire cruise. Our health and safety were a priority. Brenton was our cruise director and was extremely personable and helpful. He created an atmosphere of warmth amongst the guests. Brenton made our visit to Normandy one of the most memorable and moving experiences of our cruise. He shared a personal memory of his grandfather bringing us all to tears. This is our third Viking River Boat vacation and the first time meeting our cruise director and feeling like you made a friend. This cruise was a perfect re-entry into traveling again.
