Astoria | Thursday, Apr 04, 2024 | Thursday, Apr 04, 2024 |
Astoria is a city of 10,000 people on the Columbia River, just a few miles from the Pacific Ocean. It is surrounded by the beauty of the forest, mountains, 3 rivers and the sea. Astoria is part of a nationally significant historic region at the western end of the Lewis & Clark Trail. Astoria is the oldest American settlement west of the Rockies; a place that takes visitors back to simpler times, its architecture dominated by hundreds of Victorian homes clinging to steep wooded hillsides and with a revitalized 1920s era downtown; all set against a backdrop of tremendous natural beauty. Unspoiled and generally uncrowded, Astoria is near several first-class interpretive attractions including Fort Clatsop, the Columbia River Maritime Museum, the Flavel House, Fort Stevens State Park, the Astoria Riverfront Trolley and the Astoria Column. Because of its steep hills and beautiful Victorian homes, Astoria has been called the "Little San Francisco of the Pacific Northwest." | ||

Pros: Staff, Entertainment, New Friends I met, Excursions, Comfort
Cons: Some inconsistencies in Dining/service while dining, fitness room was inadequate
Review: This was my first cruise, ever. I travelled alone, but met a terrific group of people the first day and spent most of the cruise with them. We all enjoyed the excursions, meals, we all deeply appreciated the staff and how hard they work to make the experience totally positive for guests. I really enjoyed the history lectures, seeing so many beautiful and interesting sights, my comfortable stateroom, and felt that the coach drivers at all of our stops were exceptional. It was a pleasure and wished it could have been longer!
A most accommodating crew. They went above and beyond to make this trip the BEST
Pros: A most accommodating crew. They went above and beyond to make this trip the BEST
Cons: NONE
Review: I highly recommend this cruise. The lectures on Lewis & Clark were extremely informative. Excursions were great. Disappointed the wine trips had to be canceled. Tech Tips, Happy Hour, and nightly entertainment were excellent
Food! Wine!
Pros: Food! Wine!
Cons: Older ship and tours were very unprofessionally done.
Review: Hats off to the chef and servers. The food and wine were really great. There was a sommelier (sp?) that really knew his stuff. We went on a great wine tour to a winery with him. Not so good - the excursions. Evidently they expected the bus drivers to do some narration - and although they drove the bus well, they are definitely not tour guides. The times of the tours, as well as the locations, kept changing. Plus, these were tours that we had to pay extra for! The best excursions were the ones that we went to on our own.
